Beyonce – At Last

Beyonce did a lovely lovely job singing At Last last night (and how sexy is Michelle???).

I don’t know much about Beyonce’s music, only that she sings utterly god-awful songs like Single Ladies, that I hear every single day I leave my house in NYC (I hear it in supermarkets, when I walk by shops, through people’s headphones in the subway, in cabs, I CAN’T ESCAPE THAT STUPID SONG!!). So I kinda associated Beyonce with annoying music. And I listen to her sing the lovely At Last and I’m all, now, girl, you can actually sing, why you gotta bring yourself down to stupid songs like Single Ladies?

Just lovely. Here’s her singing the same song to Etta James looking absolutely divalicious.

President Barack Hussein Obama!

The sweetest part of the inauguration ceremony, the end of Dr. Joseph Lowery’s benediction

“Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen”

Worst part, IMO, Rick Warren. Every time he talked about respect and equality of men, I wanna cringe at his hypocrisy because Rick Warren has been active against gay rights. What bullshit.

Still, a day for celebration all over America amidst financial crumble! Even gloom and doom needs a day off.

Don’t These Google People Work?

Note the fridge full of beer.

Wait for the 2nd guy. He’s awesome.

Who is Ari Brouillette?

..and I love you.

His book review of The Secret can be fully appreciated only if you know what The Secret is and what it represents.

His reviews of other, rather (ahem) esoteric, books are brill as well. I think Mr. Brouillette has found a perfect niche for himself on the internet…or he should go work for The Onion.

Jingle Cats – Auld Lang Syne

Chalk another one up for the silliness on the internets.

Auld Lang Syne – Jingle Cats

Mewsic to my ears!

Reflection on 2008 Resolutions…2009 Onward Ho!

Looking back on 2008 resolutions, I’m happy that I accomplished some of them i.e. complete the CFA! More family time! Make it to Burning Man! Drink more water (I’m a regular chugger now…it seems like the more I drink the more thirsty I get)! Moisturize (it’s become a habit. My facial skin thanks me)! Be more clutter free (somewhat achieved)! Keeping my hair short! Continue to be loving! Empathize!

What I have been lacking in is more yoga/meditation. I admit to back-sliding somewhat. A combination of CFA studying in 1H08. And various travels, house guests, illness, and simply, laziness in 2H08. I haven’t cooked more this year, and delivered take-out food has increasingly become the norm. Again, sheer laziness. And I really haven’t read enough books in 2008, owing to another failure – continued mindless surfing of the internet and the darn introduction of Facebook into my life in 2008.

So here’s the list for 2009. A more simple on this year. I’m gonna take it easy on the goal-making this year!

  • More cooking and healthy eating and taking care of my beautiful healthy whole and complete body.
  • More reading. Less mindless surfing
  • Continuation of Operation Morning Glory (which has been a MASSIVE failure again lately. sigh. Am I fighting a losing battle?)
  • More patience for Fat Cat aka Graciela in his snoring and peeing where he is not supposed to be and love him for the fat-ness that he is
  • More family time! More!
  • Release control
  • Sitting back and enjoying the miracles of life

Happy 2009!

The first post of 2009! I haven’t been posting much lately cos of an on and off stomach issue (bleh!) and spent ALL YEAR (well, today) sitting in front of the TV watching a Project Runway marathon (OMG! that show is SO good!).

But we had the perfect gathering last night with just a few of our closest friends, my brother and his wife, and my husband, and 4 of our kitties. We went on the rooftop in sub-zero temperature to check out the fireworks, and watched the ball drop (thanks to TIVO, we went back in time) on TV and wondered who on earth would wanna go to Times Square to deal with the crowd and the cold for hours and hours without public restrooms. It was a wonderful way to wrap up yet another wonderful year and I am grateful for all that I have in my life.
