Massive Fails

Who are these people that are spokespeople for the McCain campaign? You’d really think that he’d hire more competent people that these fuckwits to speak on behalf of him …. oh wait, he appointed Palin.

Is McCain trying to lose this thing?

This whole thing trying to link Obama to terrorists or anti-Semites is pathetic. PATHETIC.

Compare how Obama’s and McCain’s spokespeople respond:

Even FOX NEWS is saying that this is scary:

Who You Callin’ Socialist?

McCain’s campaign tries to tag Obama as a socialist. And then McCain says this:

McCain touted his plan to use a portion of the $700 billion financial bailout package passed by Congress to buy up the mortgages of distressed homeowners so they can “stay in their homes.”

“That’s the American dream, and I’m going to protect it,” McCain told supporters in Hanoverton, Ohio. “This administration isn’t doing enough.”

McCain also accused Democrats of trying to scare voters on Halloween by saying that he would take away Social Security and Medicare.

“My friends, our Americans have wised up,” he said. “I’m going to protect Social Security. I’m going to protect Medicare, and I’m not going to let this Congress tax away your retirement savings.”

Who’s going to pay for Social Security and Medicare if you want to cut taxes for the rich?

McCain, you are sounding more like a irrelevant old man by the day.

Obamaland in NYC

Obama is so popular in my neighborhood that there was even an article in the New York Times about actual McCain/Palin supporters (gasp! The horror!). Do you think it’s a coincidence that ultra-liberal NY Times chose to take a photo of a very fat couple with their McCain/Palin signs (as a whole, New Yorkers are generally very very slim, relative to the rest of the country, so they are really not very representative)?

I haven’t seen a SINGLE McCain/Palin sign in all of New York City myself…seriously! When we took some houseguests on a walk around Brooklyn (North Slope, Prospect Park, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene), I decided to start taking pictures of the Obama signs and was astounded by how many I took in a single walk.

My friend Alex.

Probably the strangest looking endorsement – at Brooklyn Industries.

This was in the Lower East Side this morning.

Sick of Obama’s face yet? ….the sole Palin sign I’ve seen – in Williamsburg

I am normally suspicious of herd mentality, or overt one-sidedness. I felt it a lot while I was in SF/Berkeley (intolerant hippies!). But somehow, this time, I just feel more strongly about a Barack Obama presidency. Although far from perfect, he is the best choice for right now.

GoBama 08!

Happy Halloween! (I Miss SF!)

Sigh. This is the one time I really really miss San Francisco! People in New York really don’t get into Halloween like people in San Francisco do. Then again, San Fran people dress up for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.

Most of my friends here aren’t dressing up tonight. The only other people as excited as I am to dress up is Pat (SF) and Vicki (my Californian friend from Berkeley).

C’mon people! It’s Halloween on a FRIDAY!! The least you could do is dress up A LITTLE!?!? SHEESHH!!

The Economist Endorses Obama

My favorite journal endorses my favorite candidate.

The presidential election
It’s time

Oct 30th 2008
From The Economist print edition
America should take a chance and make Barack Obama the next leader of the free world

…For all the shortcomings of the campaign, both John McCain and Barack Obama offer hope of national redemption. Now America has to choose between them. The Economist does not have a vote, but if it did, it would cast it for Mr Obama. We do so wholeheartedly: the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence. But we acknowledge it is a gamble. Given Mr Obama’s inexperience, the lack of clarity about some of his beliefs and the prospect of a stridently Democratic Congress, voting for him is a risk. Yet it is one America should take, given the steep road ahead.

…this cannot be another election where the choice is based merely on fear. In terms of painting a brighter future for America and the world, Mr Obama has produced the more compelling and detailed portrait. He has campaigned with more style, intelligence and discipline than his opponent. Whether he can fulfil his immense potential remains to be seen. But Mr Obama deserves the presidency.

Madama Butterfly

Yet another Met Opera watched. Check!

Chansidine’s latest houseguest (yes! another one!) has been terribly generous. Dominique took us out to watch Madama Butterfly at the Met Opera last night.

It was FABULOUS! I was absolutely bowled over by the theatrics – the costumes and the lighting. It was nothing I had ever seen before. And Patricia Racette, who played Madama Butterfly, was beyond-words amazing.

This was a decidedly different experience from Don Giovanni, clearly; Don Giovanni was written a whole other century. The production of Don Giovanni had minimal cast, minimal costumes, minimal theatrics, and even minimal lyrics, according to the translated subtitles that appeared in front of your seat. Because there were minimal everything, the production of Don Giovanni really allowed you to zone in on the emotions of the moment. Whereas Madama Butterfly was more engaging on many different things. I liked them both and cannot compare them; apples to oranges. But I would highly recommend anyone to watch this if you are an opera first-timer and unsure whether you’d want to spend a good amount of money watching something you aren’t sure you’ll not fall asleep in. The theatrics in itself are good enough for the 3-act, 3-hour ride.

My only complaint: Pinkerton abandoned the Asian for the white chick? WTF?

His Choice

I admit, I don’t like political ads, which tend to be oversimplified and misleading. But this one was really effective.

A wink says a thousand words:

Operation Morning Glory

This is entirely unscientific, and possibly psychosomatic.

In the last 2 days, given my recent massive fail at Operation Morning Glory, I have attempted to get up at the sound of my alarm. I did not sleep with my eye-mask (which I suspect makes me sleep longer because my eyes don’t get any light in). And I also made Patrick (who wakes an hour earlier than I do) leave the lights on after my alarm goes off, so my eyes are even more bothered by the light so I am forced to get up right away, instead of laying back down under my eye-mask 5 times after hitting the snooze button 5 times before finally grunting out of bed because I’m already late for work.

And in the last 2 days, I feel way more alive, alert, awake during the rest of the day than I have been in a long time (which I wrote about back then)! It is very bizarre. It’s like getting up on the right side of the bed. I don’t know why just the way I wake up affects my energy for the entire rest of the day, but I swear it really does…significantly so!

Thriller!

Possibly the most creative rendition of Thriller yet!

Most awesome: the French accent. “..and no mere mortal can reeezist/The eeeevil of the Thriller!!”

A timeless song! MJ rules!
